With just a sermon hall and a dormitory for the bonzes, this hermitage is not large in scale, and no remains of the old buildings are found, either. It was established by Lady Chang in 1750 during the reign of Yongjo, the 21st king of the Choson Dynasty. It is said that Hungson Taewon¡¯gun (King Kojong¡¯s father) rebuilt it and made an offering, as well as bestowed a tablet with calligraphy ¡°Unsuam¡± in his own handwriting. Legend says that a young widow prepared the ground for a place to live within the mercy of Buddha outside Muyang Castle. She received a divine message in a dream instructing her to build a Buddhist temple inside the castle. She went to the castle, removed the grasses and pine trees, and found the place suitable for a temple site. So, this hermitage came into being. Presently, a sermon hall of 10m x 4.4m and a dormitory of 9.2m x 2.4m remain.
