When Queen Dowager Inmok-daebi reconstructed Chiljangsa Temple for
his father Kim Chenam and his son Prince Yongchang-daegun, she personally
bestowed ten books of sutras and a hanging scroll in her own handwriting
to Kim Kwangmyong. Presently, only the hanging scroll is preserved. Inmok-daebi
was born in 1584 (Sonjo 17) and selected as the queen consort in 1602
(Sonjo 35). She is mother of Prince Yongchang-daegun, the only legitimate
son of Sonjo. As the Crown Prince Kwanghaegun acceded to the throne, Yu
Kyong¡¯yong and his party, who attempted to dethrone and have Prince Yongchang-daegun
instated as the Crown Prince, were ruined, and Chong Inhong and his party
acquired power. They ousted Prince Yongchang-daegun to Kanghwa (and killed
him later), killed Kim Chenam, and dethroned Inmok-daebi and confined
her in Sogung Palace, in the 5th year of King Kwanghaegun (1613). She
was reinstated and became the Queen Dowager by the restoration movement
of ¡°Incho-banjong¡± in the 15th year of King Kwanghaegun (1623). She died
in the 10th year of Incho (1632). |
